The Night had come early, a sudden cold wind had suprised everyone today. A group of guards where standing on top of one of it’s citadels towers. The group was formed with a handful of men and one elf. The men were telling old war stories to each other around the campfire.  But the Elf was standing on the other side of the tower enjoying the sound of the nearby forest. Birds singing, leaves twirling around each other. All of a sudden the birds stopped singing and the elf could hear footsteps. With his keen eye he searched the forest for a glimpse of who was running from the citadel. And then he saw a beautiful young woman. Her hair was black as night, she was wearing a white cloth. But that was al she was wearing, she was running barefoot trough the woods. The elf hesitated, he should report this. It was law. No one was allowed to leave the citadel without escort of the guards.
But he knew how the people in this city could be. Terrible masters, enslaving all, no respect for anyone but themselves. They could be terrible people, the elf knew this first hand. He himself was a slave, a lowlife. Not worth the time and effort of a human. Other races were also enslaved Elves, Goblins, Dwarves, Halfings even other Humans.
So if she was a slave like him. He would gladly help her. But this would be at risk of his own life. Because he would die if anyone found out he let her go.

He turned towards the other men, but none of them seamed to see or hear anything. "She deserves a better life." He said to himself. He kept watching her. Then all of a sudden she stopped. She turned around and looked directly in his eyes. The moment was over before it started but he had felt her fear. She was afraid and running for her life. The elf felt relief coming over him when the connection broke. If something like that was possible. She had turned around and started to run again. This time she ran much faster than before. He had felt her relief. She had seen him and realized that he would not expose her. That's what he had felt. But how?

Months passed and the elf grew weary of the citadel. He was sick of being treated like a slave, someone who had no right to live except to please his masters.
He had thought long and hard about what had happened when he was on guard duty. He loved his guard duty. Once every 5 weeks he could go up to one of the towers and guard it. Away from al the misery in the city. Away from his horrible masters. They would hit him, kick him. They would order him to do things that you wished upon no one.
But after he had seen the young woman escape he had hope. Every week he would go to old man's Taylors place to get supplies. But what the masters did not know. Is that he would practice his gift. Old man Taylor had been a sorcerer. Before it was considered to be treason. The citadels rules were strict. No magic. If you chose to ignore this, you would die.

But old man Taylor could not resist helping the Elf. He was the only one the elf could trust. Together they searched for the young women. There were several spells that could do that. And the Elf had no idea how he had done it. But they found her and she was all right. In the months that followed the young woman transformed into a powerful priestess. The Elf followed her closely every day. So that he could one day join her and her cause. Months later he discovered that the young woman was planning to attack the citadel. The elf was torn between letting it happen or giving the citizens a chance to prove they are worth saving. So he designed 3 tests. Which the humans al miserably failed. Which made the Elf even more angry than he already was. The past year the elf had trained his magic well. Old man Taylor had been euphoric about his gift. He was probably the most powerful sorcerer he had ever seen. So when the time was right. He sent a message to the young woman and watch as she received it. He saw a smile on the young woman’s face as she read his letter, explaining everything. He would gladly join her and her quest. All she had to do was ask.
Her reaction was: "Come" She looked right at him as if he was in the room. She had known he was there all along.

The elf's plan was set into motion. He made himself invisible and entered the great hall where the generals, advisors and there king were having a meeting of some sort. He had known all of the men inside this room. They were horrible people. And as he listened he grew more convinced this was the right thing to do.
He started with rain, the sky went dark and a storm arouse outside, followed bij thunder and lightningstrikes. This had caught the attention of the king and is men. To end with an earthquake no one had ever felt before. Then he appeared before the king and his generals and held an epic speech, about how they would be sorry for what they had done. That this citadel was beyond saving and that they had deserved what was coming.
There was an opening at the side of the hall. You could look over the entire city. The elf made sure he was standing at its edge and jumped down.
When the king and his men came closer. They were striked with fear. An enormous eagle had manifested right in front of them. With the Elf on top of it.
The eagle made a horrible sound, leaving the king and his men frozen with fear.

Within the hour the elf reached the tower of the priestess. He was flying around it. Circling, waiting for a sign.
When he heard her voice commanding him to enter.

The elf braced himself. He did not know what would come.
But he knew one thing. They would make History together. And Probably not, as the good guys.
